MEET THE TEAM
Paul Eggleton
Enterprise Director
Passionate about sport, Paul spent much of his youth in sports clubs, representing England Schools at hockey before concentrating on a first class rugby career at Bedford and Saracens RUFCs.
After graduating with a degree in Physical Education and Sports Studies in 1980, Paul embarked on a 25 year teaching career - 21 of which were at UCS where he assumed the role of Director of Sport in 1994.
Paul spearheaded the planning, development and launch of UCS Active over a 12 year period, firmly committed to delivering a high quality health and fitness club to the school and Hampstead communities. Since the club opened in 2007, Paul's role has developed further and he now assumes responsibility of all non-academic commercial activity for the school.
Karen Valls
Enterprise Manager
Originally from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Karen moved to Spain in 1984 to pursue a career in the tourist industry. Following a role as Resort Manager for a large Tour Operator, Karen's career changed direction and she assumed a senior PA role, supporting the chairman of a large corporate organisation.
After 20 years in Spain, Karen returned to the UK in pursuit of her lifelong dream to become a Flight Attendant. Flying mainly European routes for BMI Airline, Karen was rapidly promoted to flight supervisor, but in 2006, Karen was persuaded to hang up her wings and join the new UCS Active venture!
With passion and expertise in health & fitness, Karen was appointed Enterprise Assistant before her promotion to Enterprise Manager. Karen is responsible for ensuring a high level of customer service is maintained at all times and assumes full responsibility of membership matters. Karen is also in charge of external hire and lettings of the school facilities.

Keith Mainstone
Operations Manager
Keith's interest in sport, health and fitness started at a young age. Spending most of his youth training for rugby and athletics, Keith became a full time athlete competing at the top level in decathlon before injury put an end to his professional career.
Keith joined LA Fitness in 1997, starting as a junior on the gym floor and quickly progressing to a group training and management role, where he was responsible for all wet facilities across the LA Fitness group. Keith was also responsible for designing and running courses in water management and treatment, as well as acting as a Water And Pool Management Consultant for various pool companies and builders.
Keith has a passion for the technical side of sport and fitness and joined the UCS Active team at Operations Manager before the club launched in 2007. Keith ensures the smooth operations of the centre as well as acting as class instructor and fitness advisor.
